The National Mathematics Talent Contest (NMTC) is India’s premier mathematics talent search exam. Organised annually by the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India (AMTI), NMTC attracts more than 125,000 students from schools and colleges across the country. It identifies and nurtures mathematical talent by challenging students with non-routine problems that require creative thinking and a deep grasp of concepts.
Aims
- Identify talented students: NMTC discovers and supports students with a flair for mathematics and encourages them to pursue the subject.
- Promote creative and original thinking: The contest emphasises problem‑solving and reasoning over memorisation.
- Expose students to multi‑concept questions: It prepares participants for Olympiad‑level exams through non‑routine, multi‑step problems.
- Reach students across India: Exams are available in multiple languages to encourage participation nationwide.
By nurturing problem‑solving skills and providing a pathway to higher‑level Olympiads, NMTC has helped many students excel in competitions such as the Regional Mathematical Olympiad and the Indian National Mathematics Olym.piad.
